Support Groups

Attending a group with others who have lost someone can give those participating an opportunity to listen and/or share their feelings in a safe and supportive setting. Bereavement groups can help reduce feelings of isolation and make it possible to understand how grief differs for all individuals. Understanding grief and its effects can allow you to cope more effectively and support those around you, but while still protecting your own grieving process.

These groups are for anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one, no matter when or how the loss occurred.

Support Group – Cost: By donation if possible

Registration is not required for groups and workshops, however feel free to let us know if you’re coming and any information you’d like us to know. Support Group times and the registration form is found here.

A brief description of each group is listed below.

This weekly support group is open to grieving adults who have experienced loss through death, regardless of how or when the loss occurred. By connecting with others, it is possible to understand not only your own grief, but also the way others process theirs. Group work can help participants feel understood, supported and less alone as they take steps towards healing and recovery.

LEAN INTO IT (Ages 14-25)
The Lean Into It Program involves a weekly group every Tuesday night from 6:00pm – 7:00pm. After losing someone close to you, sometimes even family and friends just don’t understand what you’re going through.

Additionally, monthly games nights are held where we take time to just chill, play some board games, listen to music, and eat snacks. Special events found here.

What Now?
…Grief After Losing a Child

This six week support group is open to adults who have lost a child. Often grief can feel very lonely, even when you have family and friends offering support. We may feel lost and unsure, wondering and perhaps asking ourselves, ‘what now?’ Sharing with others who have experienced the loss of a child may help participants better understand grief and provide support in addressing issues associated with their loss. Grief is a personal journey, although when shared in a supportive group forum, may help members take steps towards healing and recovery. You are not alone!

Pets and Grief
Until one has loved an animal, a part of ones soul remains unawakened.  Anatole France

For many, the life and death of a beloved animal family member is as valuable and significant as that of losing a human. The level of grief that follows their death is a normal response to an important loss in our life. The Grief Centre acknowledges and honours the important place in our hearts pets have, and offers an opportunity for those grieving over the death of a pet to share their experience with others in a compassionate and understanding group setting.

Creative Craft and Cupcakes for Kids
Art and craft activities are not only enjoyable experiences for most children; they also provide an opportunity for children to express themselves and provide a therapeutic outlet after experiencing loss. This workshop will provide children, from 5-12 years, the opportunity to decorate cupcakes, enjoy afternoon tea and participate in a range of creative craft activities with other children who have also experienced loss. Each workshop is conducted by experienced, qualified support staff.
